Event Details
Mountainfilm Festival began in 1979 as an opportunity for climbers and mountaineers to enjoy the Telluride outdoors by day and watch films about the mountains and mountain culture by night. It has evolved over the decades to embrace a much wider and more diverse audience. The programming now stretches to the leading edges of contemporary social, cultural, and environmental issues.
An orientation towards activism has increasingly defined Mountainfilm since the mid-90’s, a function of both leadership as well as a growing public appetite to engage with modern challenges.
Mountainfilm bills itself as America’s leading independent documentary film festival. Additionally, the program includes a full-day symposium on pressing contemporary environmental issues. This years theme is Migration. Past themes include:
Energy (2007)
Water (2008)
Food (2009)
